Dear all,

Just to draw your attention to my new book co-authored with Alexander Agadjanian, Understanding World Christianity: Russia (Fortress Press, 2021). It’s especially intended for students and non-specialists. It provides an introduction to Christianity (with a focus on Orthodoxy) in contemporary Russia in historical perspective. The first chapter provides a general introduction to ‘what is Orthodoxy’ as well as looks at the distinctive features of Russian Orthodoxy; Chapter 2 at how Russian Christianity responded to different geographical and cultural environments; chapter 3 is an overview of the history of Christianity in Russia. Chapter 4 explores the historical experience of the past century through the lives of representative figures. Chapter 5 explores modern Russian theology. Chapter 6 examines the socio-political role of Christianity in post-Soviet Russia.
